These are the entry level models and therefore the cheapest portable air conditioning & cooling units available. They are simply a floor mounted fan unit that blows air into and around a room which increases evaporation. The air being circulated by the fan is the same temperature as the air in the room, so while it doesn’t actually lower the air temperature, it has the effect of making the room feel cooler through evaporation. These are good for large, open areas such as warehouses and gyms.

Evaporative Coolers for Hire

An Evaporative Cooling system is a step up from a Fan Unit or Air Mover. This takes basic evaporation and automates it to efficiently lower the temperature of the air around you. In general, the units consist of an enclosure housing fan, a thick pad and a water reservoir. The fan draws dry, hot air from the room into the machine and across the pads. Water is continually passed across these pads to keep them wet and as the hot air crosses the pad, the water molecules on the surface evaporate resulting in a cooling effect. The fan then blows this cold air into the room, where you can enjoy the chill on a hot day.

Naturally, the water in the reservoir will reduce over time and so you will need to top it up every now and again depending on usage. To increase the cooling effect in the room even more, it is possible on some models to add bags of ice if needed. These are a great solution for retail spaces or areas with medium to high footfall.

Portable Air Conditioners for Hire

Portable Air Conditioners are the most popular choice for cooling, especially in areas where low noise levels are required such as offices and classrooms. Their compact shape and modern design make them ideal for the areas where they need to “blend in” to their surroundings.

Portable units operate similar to installed air conditioning systems in that they draw in the hot, humid air from the room which then condenses on a series of cold coils containing refrigerant gas. This cools down the air and extracts the moisture, leaving only conditioned, cold air to be vented back into the room. Any residual hot, humid air is then expelled to the outside world through an exhaust hose.

To use these units, you need to ensure they are located close enough to an exterior window so the exhaust hose can be directed out of it.

Split Air Conditioning & Cooling Units for Hire

These units are split (hence the name) into two distinct parts – one indoor unit and one outdoor unit. The indoor unit is connected to the outdoor unit with temporary flow and return pipework with water acting as the medium that removes heat. The outdoor unit holds the condenser and the fan and the indoor unit the compressor and evaporator.

These units are highly efficient and are perfect for when an exhaust hose cannot be ducted out of a window or when increased cooling capacity is required for larger spaces such as warehouses, marquees, sports halls, etc.

In addition, the indoor unit can be located up to 30m away from the outdoor unit making it more versatile for irregularly shaped rooms.
