Teaching Expansion – Ventilation & Air-Conditioning Upgrade

February 10 2026by Maximum Climate Control

We were appointed to design, supply, and install heat recovery ventilation and air-conditioning systems for a teaching expansion project within an occupied academic building. The works served two separate teaching areas, each with differing spatial constraints, occupancy profiles, and performance requirements.

Key Challenges

  • High ventilation rate demands driven by teaching use and occupancy density
  • Integration with existing building services infrastructure
  • Delivering energy-efficient solutions without compromising comfort or compliance

Our Solution:

Teaching Area 1
The first teaching space is served by a Systemair air handling unit providing high-efficiency heat recovery. Cooling and heating are delivered via Mitsubishi Electric ceiling cassette units, with three cassettes integrated into the existing VRF system.
To meet the total heating and cooling duty set out in our design report, an additional cassette was installed on a dedicated split system, ensuring full coverage and operational resilience.

Teaching Area 2
The second teaching space, while slightly smaller, required equally robust ventilation performance. This area has been equipped with two Daikin VAM heat recovery ventilation units to provide efficient fresh air delivery and energy recovery. Heating and cooling are provided via a Daikin twin split system, incorporating two ceiling-mounted cassette units for balanced temperature control.

Outcome:

Despite the demanding ventilation requirements and the complexities of working within an existing building, the project was delivered successfully through strong engineering design and experienced on-site coordination. The completed installation provides compliant, energy-efficient ventilation and comfortable internal conditions suitable for modern teaching environments.
